Remember the young black kid that sang the theme song for *MASH* ? (What a great voice)

Well , this is driving me nuts....

There is a commercial on TV being played a lot...It shows a Black guy going in to the fridge and getting his coffee creamer out and then sings "In the morning when I wake up? I reach for my smilie face cup" etc,etc...(and then his sour face wife walks in and ----)

I think these two are the same person......

Anyone know ???

I found the singer for the MASH theme song to be Johnny Mandel. I couldn't find anything about doing a commercial. Maybe someone else might find something?

Could you point to where you found that, Jusork? Johnny Mandel is credited as the writer of the music (but not the lyrics, that was Mike Altman) to "Suicide is Painless," but I have not seen him credited as the singer (I haven't seen anyone credited as the singer).

Aside from that, Johnny Mandel cannot be who Don is thinking of because he is white and was in his 40s at the time the movie came out.

To answer your other question, the singer of the coffee creamer commercial is the very talented Wayne Brady. He was/is a standard on both versions of "Who's Line is it Anyway?" and has a talk show as well.

I think it unlikely that Mandel sang the M*A*S*H theme. His bio at ASCAP does not mention any singing, only playing, writing, producing, and arranging.
