I've recently been rewatching some of the classic Tony Hancock TV programmes on DVD (writtten by Simpson and Galton), including "The Blood Donor", "The Lift", "The Bowmans" and so on. Hancock's genius was very special, a timeless comic who, for us Brits lucky enough to have been able to appreciate him, will never ever fade. But who else, away from the UK, knows of and remembers the genius of the man, he who originally lived at 23 Railway Cutings, East Cheam?

Although he never was successful in the US during his lifetime,it would be interesting to know if he is known over there now.I beleive he was popular in Australia.
Whilst looking at his bio on Wikipedia I was interested to find out that he actually lived and was brought up in Christchurch, which is only about 19 miles from where I now live and he was at school in Durlston, a beautiful part of Dorset, where we often go. Funny I always thought he was a Londoner.

He was born in Birmingham. Although the family left there for Dorset when he was three, the city still claims him to the extent that they erected a statue to him in Birmingham city centre Smile:
