Been holding my own but have a poser...

Original Q: What do Star Trek and Friends have in common?

Clues - The answer has nothing to do with any of the characters or objects.

- Jennifer Tilly...Matthew Perry have this in common. 'This' is not the answer but it would point you in the right direction.

- Perhaps there is a connection to Kenny Rogers?

- Bonus clue: NOT Plastic Surgery

I have been yet stumped again, any ideas, speculation, conjecture would be welcome.

Thanks again in advance!

The immediate one that comes to mind is the appearance of actress Teri Garr, who appeared in the Star Trek episode Assignment Earth and was Phoebe's estranged birth mother (Phoebe Abbott Sr) in Friends.

Rogers had a song and a movie named "The Gambler." Matthew Perry of Friends was in one of those "celebrity" poker matches. Was anyone from Star Trek in a poker contest? I know that poker has been part of the plot in the original ST, and some of the spin-offs. Maybe there is something in that.

Wil Wheaton's blog has him playing in an online poker contest.

Party drops to third, Former Star Trek Actor gets lucky

Later

What you may not know is this: Wil Wheaton has game.

Wil has been writing about poker on his blog for a while and the PokerStars crew couldn't help but fall for Wil's tales from the felt. So, when Wil appeared at the World Poker Tour Championship this year, PokerStars was watching. - pokerstarsblog.com/2005/06/wil-wheaton-joins-team-pokerstars

There is a picture of Wheaton at the table about a third the way down on the page.
---
So both Friends and Star Trek have a main character who has played in a poker contest.

Thanks for the replies, although one of the clues says it has nothing to do with characters or objects, Teri Garr is a good answer.

This is the original Star Trek, ( I should have been more specific) so that would rule out Wil
Wheaton, this Kenny Rogers thing throws me off though. The gambling idea is an excellent prospect as well, I thought of it too but no original Trek cast is involved in poker that I know of.
I'll be back.

Thanks again, I'll be back

The only other thing I see that is obvious (I only get the really obvious stuff) is that both series began their runs on NBC on Thursdays @ 8:30 PM Eastern.

Apparently , not what he is looking for.

I just received one more clue.

The answer involves the actions of Chandler Bing and James T. Kirk.

There you go, any ideas?

There seems to be a contradiction here.

"Clues - The answer has nothing to do with any of the characters or objects."

"The answer involves the actions of Chandler Bing and James T. Kirk."

You're right DG, I will address that.
Thanks for pointing that out.

I queried Mr. King on his seemingly contradictive answer, and I have his reply.

I also allude to a possible involvement with celebrity poker and he said.

"You say 'potato'. I say 'kumquat'.

Clarification for your enlightenment:

The answer has nothing to do about the actual characters but may have something to do with an action - which is not necessarily about a character i.e. if the action was making toe jam footballs...nothing really to do with either Kirk or Bing.

By the way, you are on the right track. In -30 weather you are definitely getting warmer."

Well I tried Teri Garr and the celebrity poker angle. Thanks DG & DS, here was the answer he was after.
"The answer is actually that on both shows, fictional gambling card games were created. On Star Trek, Kirk created Fizzbin to fit in with the 'boys' in A Piece of the Action while on Friends, Chandler created Cups as a way to try and divert money to Joey."

It is now my turn to ask him one, any ideas for a real hard question related to the original Star Trek?

Well, can you cross reference between different series of the Star Trek Universe?

A couple television series later, Wharf (on Deep Space 9) alludes to how the Klingons had altered their appearance when, during a time-travel episode, Jadzia-Dax couldn't find the Klingons because their appearance had changed, to her surprise.
