My roommate has these little throat lozenges that have an active ingredient Dextromethorphan. He got sick last week and took one where he proceeded to pop it in his mouth, chew it up and swallow it. I told him he wasn't getting the full effects if he doesn't use it as a lozenge. First off I would like some proof that it won't do as much. Secondly... He began eating them like they're candy now, he's been complaining about having trouble getting to sleep and restlessness (which is a symptom of overdose). Can someone help me get it through his thick skull that he shouldn't be eating them like they're candy?

Typing "dextromethorphan overdose" or "DXM overdose" into Google will get you a lot of results. This looks fairly informative, but this may be more useful as a scare-tactic.
