I have read that rubber bands last longer when refrigerated. Is this true?

It seems to me that it would be more likely that the cold air would cause the rubber band's elastic bonds to constrict, so that when they are pulled (at a length acceptable when they are stored at room temperature) the strain would cause them to break apart.

Thanks for your help!

I don't know if it's true but I do know that heat dries out rubber making it crack. So, with that in mind, seems the cold would make the rubber last longer. No snide comments from the peanut gallery - I can hear the chuckles already!
