My friend's daughter has some tennis shoes that have lights on them. When she walks, the bottom of the shoes lights up. Is this Mercury inside them? If so, does she have to recycle the tennis shoes when they wear out?

Clare, according to the attachment, shoe manufacturers changed their lighting mechanisms in 1997 to eliminate mercury from their products.
