We have a 90'x 110', 3'x 20' deep pond here is south Louisiana. Just 15-20 minutes ago it started to sway. It splashed to it's banks at least 8 inches to one side as it receeded from the other side. Now it is gradually settling down at about 4-6 inches. We have never seen this happen before.
What could have caused this?

Yes, it sounds like the same time as the Fairbanks earthquake we had today. I live in Juneau, Ak. and the lamps in the house swayed and the trees outside swayed, but we didn't really feel it. Strange.

The local news on tv said the same thing. They were recieving reports about pools, ponds and the Mississippi River doing the same thing we saw here.
Only my husband and I saw the water splashing in the pond and we wanted someone else to see it...it was so weird and scary.

Thanks for the link Byter. I reported it. I noticed it was felt in Slidell, La. which is much further south than us.

We had a strong earthquake here about 5 years ago. The odd thing about it was that it traveled in a narrow line. I was at the computer and it passed under me, made my chair rock and my stomach feel queasy. My husband was working outside about 20 feet away, and he didn't feel a thing. Neither did the neighbor on the other side. Personally, I feel about earthquakes like other people feel about lightning - I love them. And I've been in some pretty strong ones - nothing like Northridge, of course, but about 3 years ago we had one that did so much damage to the capitol building that everybody had to move out.
