We were building this house back in the early 1960s. We heard that there was some slate rock out in the southern desert so we went out were they said and got the rock. We were going to use it for a entry way and a fireplace. We noticed four fossils of leaves in the rock. At that time I didn't pay that much attention. Now I am interested in fossils. These are in a sort of sandstone or maybe it was silt at one time. I have found a LOT of leaves by spliting the slates open. A lot of the leaves are approx. 1 inch wide by 2 1/2 inches long you can clearly see the central vain in them. The edges are smooth on most of the leaves. Some of the leaves are different but mostly these leaves are all over. Have you ever heard of leaves like these?

Certainly. There are hundreds of various fossil leaves. If you go to google image search you can find quite a few sites that show different species.

Just click on the link below and type in: Fossil leaves.
