I have read that at some point there is a major fault in the earth that may eventually through earthquake split a portion of California as an island that will exist separate from the continent. I don't think it is predicted that this is going to happen anytime soon or even in our life time. It is just a theory that the strong possibility exist due to the fault line. I don't think this has anything to do with Atlantis though.

if you look at a map of faultlines (I wish I had a link, but alas I've only seen it in those old fashioned "books") it is very improbable that any California catastrophe would be as clear cut as falling into the ocean. More likely it would be like a jagged nightmare that would continue to reside above the ocean. As far as Atlantis goes, well, didn't you see the Disney movie? Everybody knows that Atlantis now sits in an air pocket at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean. smile Anyone want to discuss the possiblity of Texas becoming a barren wasteland once global warming progresses a bit more (it already hits temperatures in the hundred and teens in the summer)?

We Los Angelinos are gradually sliding north and at some point in the distant future will be at the same latitude as San Franciso. I presume we'll then pass SF and get drawn downward as we finally head out to sea.

But we ain't gonna break off and float away in one swell foop... wink

Yes, the San Andreas Fault is the one I was thinking of. Why isn't there a possibility of the earth shifting over time and part of California being in the ocean in island form? Have you heard the theory (I can't think of the name of it either!) where if you put all the continents together, they fit like puzzle pieces together? Is that a coincidence? I seriously doubt it. The earth has been shifting gradually over time and will continue to for many reasons. Louisiana keeps getting larger where the Mississippi River erosion of land dumps at the base of the river. Glaciers caused the Great Lakes. I doubt that we will live to see anything drastic happen at the fault line, but it probably will at some point in time.
