Well we knew it all along Smile Note that in Britain we don't worry about bad, or any , religion being taught in state schools but bad science is quite another matter!

A High Court Judge has ruled that the Al Gore film 'An Inconvenient Truth' may be shown in all state schools, as our government has directed, but must be accompanied by corrective information:

Gore's false claims

Bet nobody in America would take what Al Gore said as wholly accurate, so why should our children ? Big Grin

It sounds as though the judge is short sighted regarding global warming. Interestingly, one of the points on which the judge agrees--that humans have the technology to do something about global warming--is not so clear. After all, it seems impossible to quickly slow down the continuation of damage already done to land by global warming, and some countries, especially China by coal burning, are expected to hasten this damage. I recently saw on the news that ethanol has been found to be too expensive to produce to replace coal and oil, requiring too much land and water (with droughts forecast). I also recently saw a TV program in which it was said that vast areas of the world would lose wheat fields to drought and rain forests to fires and that hundreds of millions would become "environmental refugees" due to coasts and islands falling into seas, not to mention that tens of millions would die of starvation. Whatever the UK reaction is to the movie, the UK and all countries need to keep up with the increasing findings. Sadly, no mention seems to have been made that it is generally believed that global warming exists and that it is caused by human activity.

The judge did say that, in fact, and it formed the basis of his judgment. His ruling was only that the film was misleading, unsupported by evidence or plain wrong in just the nine points (as given above). The claimant, of course, wanted the judge to rule that the film should not be shown as part of the curriculum material.

It remains of interest to us here that American schools are subjected to complaints about any hint of religion, they being all secular, but ours were here subject to complaint about the teaching of science. In Britain not only is the teaching of religion compulsory in all schools, and a morning assembly with prayers is customary, but there are very many state schools which are 'faith schools' i.e. intended for and attended by Catholics or Muslims or Jews or Sikhs etc and where the teaching is tailored to the particular faith

Did you hear that Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on global warming, but the U.S. Supreme Court took it away and gave it to Bush?
