I dont understand them. Who is it protecting? What does age matter, when its a matter of the law telling you who you can and can't have sex with? How can it be fair that the law and the goverment restricts someones sexuality and the sexual decisions that they make in thier life? Since when was someones sexual life something that oher people, let alone the goverment, should be involved in?

Its crazy, and I dont understand it.

Does this thread help? It should get it started at least. Wink
Especially Elexina's post. She mentions some reasons in there.

Someone else should read this soon now that it's not behind these other posts. Roll Eyes

"What does age matter, when its a matter of the law telling you who you can and can't have sex with?" - Yelena

So you feel sex between a 10 year old girl and a 40 year old man should be allowed as long as they both agree? What about a 9 year old girl? Is that OK, too? 8? 7?

This age thing is a law but it's not enforced in a lot of cases. A lot of parents 'let' their kids date as young as 13 to older people. This seems to be fine until someone complains, and then someone is thrown in jail. So actually it's not the age that's the problem, it's who complains, and that makes the law as crooked as a barrel of snakes.

Well, I just re-read my post from the other thread, and I still stand by everything that I said.
Ideally, such things should be looked at one a case-by-case basis, to determine whether all parties involved are mature and responsible enough to understand the consequences of sexual activity, to ensure that they understand proper birth control and sexually transmitted disease protection, but this is simply not practical and so limits must be applied.
Yes, perhaps this denies some mature teens a certain amount of sexual activity, but that is really not a big deal. They have plenty of time later in life to be sexually active.
The government is not restricting sexuality. They are placing age limits on sexual activity in order to protect impressionable juveniles from relationships they are not emotionally ready to handle.

Recently in Orlando, Florida a 20 year male old was sentenced to 10 days, suspended, for having sex with a 12 year old girl. I am a strong supporter of children being brought up with responsibility as a foundation. The Jewish people do this essentially saying the child is responsible at 12 with the Bar Mitzvah. However it is not an overnight transformation so children still need to be protected from themselves. That entails laws prohibiting the taking advantage of their inexperience, naivity and lack of framework in which to put actions and inability to forcast results. So much changes in life from 12 to 21 and you can't go back and undo. That 20 year old should be serving five years. What commonality is there between a 20 and a 12 year old? He used her even if she was too naive to know it and was willing. A 19 and a 16 year old may have basis for a relationship hence the differing laws.

Gatman, I have another one for ya. In Conyers, GA this past Friday, a 19-year-old guy was charged with statutory rape after having sex with his 13 year old wife (who became pregnant). Under Georgia law, a 13-year-old cannot legally consent to sexual activity but can get married without her parents' consent. Go Figure! Roll Eyes The sentence also calls for him to avoid contact with the girl without her family's approval and pay $1,000 in fines that will go into an account for the child. The attorneys agreed on the sentence.
