I am not sure where to put this question, but I have been wondering about it for literaly years.

There is a condition here in the United States called "entrapment" where law officials are not allowed to... well I guess "trap" someone into incriminating themselves. (I totally do not understand what this means)

For example, when a lovely nubile young policewoman dresses up as a hooker and baits a man to offer money for sex after she asks something like "You wanna date?"... how is this not entrapment?

If this isn't entrapment, what IS entrapment?

Can you give me clear examples of the differences and explain them?

Yours truely,

Sherasi, (not for the first time) confused

Reading this thread on AnswerPool may help.
However, exactly what is and isn't entrapment is often decided on a case-by-case basis.

Entrapment is when a cop is a jerk and pretends to be somethings he's not. Then he uses that and gets you arrested. He's usually a poser, like a prostitute or a drug dealer wasting his time pinching people who just want to have a good time.

Having fun legally will not get you arrested.
