Some years ago (12) when I last got a phone, I was asked my SS#... That sorta pissed me off, so I made one up.. Well they(gal at the phone office) punched a few numbers and came back and said that wasn't a match...I said it was...To make a long story shorted... I got the Phone number anyway...so , here's my question ....
IS THERE REALLY A LAW THAT REQUIRES YOUR SS# ??
Did Congress really pass such a law...
Personally I think its a bluff !!!
Anyone know ??????

In fact, it is illegal to require your social security number for identification. There are very few situations where it is required. That doesn't stop everyone from asking for it because it does actually work very well as an ID number. You have the right to deny giving your SS# to in all but a few cases (JG posted this link listing most of them). Be prepared for things to take longer and to provide some sort of alternative ID in many cases, however.
