I am sure we will have stirring debates as the political season moves forward. For now, this is meant to be a thread full of positives for Presidential contenders.

Use this forum to describe the specific achievements of the three main Presidential hopefuls - Barack Obama, John McCain and Hillary Clinton - and any reasonable third party rivals.

I feel that McCain's efforts towards campaign reform were a very positive thing. For too long, money has made the difference in not only who gets elected but who gets nominated.

While nothing specific has been achieved, yet, Hillary Clinton has done more to open the national debate on health care reform than anyone in recent memory.

Yes, she'll make socialists of you all yet.

What was it that suddenly made providing healthcare an issue ? There you are, having gone the whole of living memory with a system (if that's the word) always potentially or actually in thrall to insurance companies yet now the people are being asked to be like the Dutch (not that any American politician dare say that any idea is foreign !)

And how long before you get like the British and much of the rest of the world, then? Wink No, you surely wouldn't want candidates being level, having equal exposure, and not even the strongest having to spend their own money to keep up.

This is all very worrying. Healthcare? Campaign reform? Where will it all end ? Confused

Truman first discussed national health care, and Ted Kennedy has made efforts (in vain) since the late 60s.

But we digress.

Can an effort in vain be considered an "achievement?? I think if a seasoned fighter in a worthy cause returns, a more experienced and seasoned, though bloodied, combatant; we would do well to recognize the fact.

Personally I don't see where the McCain Feindold so-called reforms did any good whatsoever. If anything its made things a lot worse. Now we have foreign money that can come in to the campaigns in stealth mode. Yet since these organizations are independent of the candidate himself, he can say, "I had nothing to do with those ads" Smile

McCain Feingold should be repealed and let the money fly honestly like it did before Roll Eyes

I still stand by my statment on Hillary. Was she the first? Of course not. But the health care issue seems to have stayed in the national conscience with her as the leading proponent. I'm not sure about her plan but her heart is in the right place.

I would like to hear more about what our Presidential candidates have achieved. I hope they have done more than we have uncovered thus far.
