I know that states have rights, and so do corporations. Citizens definitely have rights. But does the federal government have rights that are outlined in the U.S. constitution? If so, what are those rights?

Here is a link to the U.S. constitution so that you can help me answer my question.

Realizing this is an off-shoot from the Tookie Williams discussion, I understand where you are coming from. It is hard to visualize the government has rights, the same as an individual or a corporation.

So what is the Constitution??? Some might say it is the law of the land. Some might very well look at it as the agreement that binds the 50 states together as a Union.

In the link you posted, reading the wording, I find certain words of interest.

Power, establish, provide, exercise, define, make, define, promote. These words take from Section 8. I would encourage any one to read Section 8 & see how these words are used.

By the wording used, can we make the case, this gives the U.S. government certain rights???

I think this is going to be an area where our being a Republic comes before the democracy. Because Article 1 sec 8 is all powers, not rights.

This is where you Bush supporters get your ammunition. The government has the power but not the right to do what they do.

In other words, a power can overrule a right? If so, is a right a whole right or a half-a$$ right?
