What is the appropriate amount of time to leave the flag at half staff when a President dies?

"The flag shall be flown at half-staff 30 days from the death of the President or a former President"

U.S. Flag Code

If you only have a flagpole affixed to your house without the option of actually lowering it, is it disrespectful to leave it out?

This is from flagspot.net:

If a flag cannot be half-staffed, it should be taken down. When raising a flag under half-staff, the flag is first raised to the top of the pole, then lowered to its position. When the flag is taken down, again, the flag should be raised to full and then lowered and removed.
