In the "News and Reference" tread, under "Government" this was mentionned by DG: source

Quote :"There are only two ways that this ruling can be changed: 1) an Amendment to the US Constitution, or 2) a later Supreme Court rules the other way on a similar case".Unquote

I never studied law, don't know much about it.

How do you create a need for an "amendment"? Do you write to your representative- congressman? Or start a petition? What is the mechanism the regular dudes ought to use as a tool? In this case it was about "The Supreme court" ruling about "Eminent domain", but it could be anything else.

There are two ways an amendment can be proposed.

1. A Constitutional Convention can be called by two-thirds of the state legislatures.

OR

2. The proposed Amendment must pass with two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate.

If the amendment passes both the House and the Senate with two-thirds majority, it then goes to the states. Three-fourths of the states, or 38, must ratify the amendment.

No Amendments to the U.S. Constitution have been proposed in way #1.
