What should a person do if they have a liscence to carry a gun, but get pulled over while their carrying? How should they tell the officer? Should they come right out and say "I have a gun" or what?

I would not start going for a gun they might get the wrong Idea,Depending on the circumstances of why you are being stopped .
I would have thought telling them your getting your licence out would be enough!!

I don't believe there is any reason to mention it. Let him write the ticket and be on your way.

I don't see the need, or how it's any of their business. Unless you want to compare and see who's is bigger. smile

Cops like to feel as though they're the only ones in the world who get to carry guns. License or no license, it makes them extremely nervous to hear the person they've stopped could potentially blow their head off.

Whatever you do, don't come out and say, "I have a gun." The officer might take that as a threat.

Keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times and if you feel the need to tell the officer (or if he asks), say something along the lines of, "I have a license to carry the firearm that is currently with me."

From that point on, the officer might want to hold on to your gun until he leaves for his own saefty. Let him decide how best to do that so he doesn't panic. But don't reach for it and don't reach for your wallet or in a purse if you have told him about the gun. He'll draw his gun on you before you even get to your license.

Just be nice and civil and chances are the officer will show you the same respect.

But above all, keep your hands on the steering wheel, or you could get shot.

Some states have silly laws that require you to tell police officers about your gun if pulled over. Check your local laws.

During the two times I was pulled over when carrying a firearm, once in TX and once in PA, 15 yrs apart, when asked for my license and registration, I handed my license to carry a firearm to the officer also. Both times, the officer asked if I was currently carrying a firearm, I answered yes, and I asked permission to retreive it. The TX officer said no, leave it where it was. The PA officer asked where it was, then asked me to retreive it. It lay on the dashboard until I got my warning, running a Stop sign at the end of a highway ramp, then he gave me all my info. back and off I went.

If I were you, I would cooperate fully upon request, meaning, if they don't ask, don't tell.

Remember, you not only have to have a license for the gun but, specifically, a license to carry a concealed weapon. Otherwise, having the gun in your car would be illegal.
If the officer does not intent to search your person or your vehicle, there is no reason s/he needs to know you have a weapon, unless you would feel more comfortable saying so.
Keep your hands on the steering wheel and completely visible and mention to the officer, "I just want you to know that I have a license to carry and I do currently have a gun in the car." That way (hopefully) it won't be taken as a threat.
But there's really no need to mention it unless it comes up.
BUT!!! If the officer asks you to step out of the vehicle or wants to look in your trunk or anything, you should let him/her know that s/he is likely to find a licensed weapon.

about keeping your hands on the steering wheel is a good one. At night, you may first want to turn on the interior light of your vehicle so that the officer can see you clearly. This provides the officer with an additional degree of comfort.

if it is pertinent to the situation or if the officer asks you if you have any weapons, the absolutely tell them, but dont reach for it or make any movements that would indicate that you are reaching for it until asked to do so by the officer.
otherwise, dont just go saying, 'i have a gun'
you might give him the wrong impression,
