Starting in 2004 here in Cincinnati, anyone who gets caught with a DUI --- even first timers --- must put a new license plate on their car --- yellow with red letters (scarlet, I suppose). Don't you think that this is somewhat a drastic step, especially for the first time offender? Also all other family cars from that residence must have one of these plates. Here's the story:
I think that the plates should be at the Judge's discretion for first offenses, and I, personally would be livid if I were punished for my husband's misbehavior by having my plates switched...and pity the poor teenager applying for a job delivering pizza whose car is wearing the "Scarlet Letters" due to mom screwing up....it is a good idea that needs refining.

Just realized that this is for the entire state of Ohio. Still feel that this is over the top for first time offenders. I'll bet a lot of us have been guilty of this before---who could throw the first stone?

When my son was in kindergarten his little friend ( 5 years old) and his mom were both killed by a drunk driver. It was the drunk drivers first offense. It only takes one time to be driving drunk to take a life. If this is a deterrent than I am all for it. Too many innocent people are killed by drunk drivers. I say give them no breaks at all.
I do think that other family members should not have to pay for their crimes. I agree it needs refining.
