Starting in 2004 here in Cincinnati, anyone who gets caught with a DUI --- even first timers --- must put a new license plate on their car --- yellow with red letters (scarlet, I suppose). Don't you think that this is somewhat a drastic step, especially for
the first time offender? Also all other family cars from that residence must have one of these plates. Here's the story:

I think that the plates should be at the Judge's discretion for first offenses, and I, personally would be livid if I were punished for my husband's misbehavior by having my plates switched...and pity the poor teenager applying for a job delivering pizza whose car is wearing the "Scarlet Letters" due to mom screwing up....it is a good idea that needs refining.

I think it's a good idea for first time offenders, but it's NOT fair for the rest of the family cars at the residence to have to display the plates.

Just realized that this is for the entire state of Ohio. Still feel that this is over the top for first time offenders. I'll bet a lot of us have been guilty of this before---who could throw the first stone?

If the family suffers also then maybe they will think before they do it twice

I could throw the first stone.

When my son was in kindergarten his little friend ( 5 years old) and his mom were both killed by a drunk driver. It was the drunk drivers first offense. It only takes one time to be driving drunk to take a life. If this is a deterrent than I am all for it. Too many innocent people are killed by drunk drivers. I say give them no breaks at all.

I do think that other family members should not have to pay for their crimes. I agree it needs refining.
