Thanks to PBS, you can really see why it's so important to vote and how your state's results can make the difference (of course, we may have learned that already from Florida). Take a look.

Indeed, it is! The map looks very similar to the one many pollsters are projecting now and a state one way or the other is a big deal.

Wonder if Colorado voters will decide to have their electors split based on the popular vote...would have resulted in a Gore victory last time (but make Colorado less appealing generally as a place for candidates to fight over).

According to that map, a Colorado shift from Bush to Kerry would mean an Electoral College tie, assuming that all of Colorado's votes go to Kerry. My opinion, one that I have had for a few weks now, is that Kerry will win in Florida or Ohio, and thus, win the Electoral College. I think the popular vote, while almost meaningless, will be very close, with Kerry winning by a very small margin.

DG, you are exactly right on that map.

The number of electors in some states has changed since 2000. According to the National Archives the 2000 total was Bush 271, Gore 266. Colorado then had 8 electors (and now has 9). If the Colorado electors had been split, then Gore would have won 2000 by a margin of 270 - 267.
