Some candidates for the presidency talk of campaign reform. What reform, if any , would you , as Americans on AP, like to see ?

You may know how extraordinarily stringent British laws are on the subject of campaign expenditure (only a few pence per head of eligible voters per candidate per constituency, tight limits on national campaign expenditure, tight limits on TV exposure etc) so what you propose won't sound nearly good enough to us Big Grin

Here's an idea of the thinking of our 'right': the Conservative Party (the 'nearest' we have to your GOP) has proposed that no donor to any political party be allowed to give more than £50,000 , that is c $100,000, to that party. The Labour Party, in government, is against that, being so fair-minded and liberal it doesn't want to stop rich businessmen giving money to its opponents.Or it might just be that the Labour Party doesn't want to cut donations from trade unions. They really depend on the unions Wink. (This is so fair- minded that they ignore the fact that individual members of trade unions may, and do, opt out of any personal donation through their union. However, the leadership of unions can sometimes make donations from their union's own funds)

The biggest reform we could make on campaign reform is to repeal McCain-Feingold. Here was a law that was suppose to "reform" the way campaigns were financed. Yet it has shown itself to be another law to skirt around.
