Ohio Rep. Bob Ney has pleaded Guilty to charges of conspiracy and making false statements and could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $500,000. He is awaiting sentencing. He has stated that would resign before sentencing on Jan. 19, 2007. House Speaker Dennis Hastert and other Republican leaders said he would be gone far more quickly than that.

Why aren't the Rerpublicans pushing to expel him now?

Why do they have to push him in the first place. Why is there no law in place that would strip any elected official of his office upon any conviction or admission in court of corruption in office?
Why is he still getting paid by the taxpayers?

The easy answer is :there has always been a double standard for law-breakers.

If you break the law you will be penalized, but if your job is to make those laws, your penalties will be lighter. The implication is that lawmakers don't have to obey the laws like everyone else. And there are so many exemples that could cited here. But it's up to the Senate committee to expel him (her) or to severely reprimand that member.

And how bad did you hurt your own party with scandals (you silly). The Reps had there truck loads lately. Roll Eyes

The spectacle of politicians' hypocrisy is endlessly amusing: couple of weeks ago Republicans were bragging about how quickly they got Foley to resign. Shows how different they are from Democrats who, around 20 years ago, censured some guy but let him stay. Now suddenly there are no Ney-sayers.

There are cooked politicians everywhere. Green seldom holds party lines, heck it even causes them to get together on occasion and agree on something, like sneaking a raise for themselves into other legislation. (Recent local story)

Now if you are looking to put the biggest boobs in office you would have to look to Alabama . Wink

Ney lied to investigators, and to a Congressional committee (on Financial Reform, or something like that).

Below from Wikipedia -

Robert William Ney (born 5 July 1954) is an American politician and convicted white-collar criminal from the U.S. state of Ohio. On October 13, 2006, Ney pled guilty to conspiracy and making false statements in relation to the Abramoff scandal and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison as well as fines. A Republican, Ney has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1995. Ney represents Ohio's 18th congressional district in the southeastern part of the state. Despite the seriousness of the corruption convictions, Ney has to date refused to resign from Congress.

Ney also gained notoriety when he mandated, as Chairman of the Committee on House Administration, that "french fries" be renamed "freedom fries" on House of Representatives food service menus, to indicate displeasure with France's lack of support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Before his own guilty plea, Ney was identified in the guilty pleas of Jack Abramoff, former Tom DeLay deputy chief of staff Tony Rudy, former DeLay press secretary Michael Scanlon and former Ney chief of staff Neil Volz for receiving lavish gifts in exchange for political favors.

On 15 September 2006, the Justice Department filed Ney's guilty pleas to a charge of conspiracy to defraud the United States and to a charge of falsifying financial disclosure forms. Both charges are related to actions taken on behalf of Abramoff's clients in exchange for bribes, as well as separate actions taken on behalf of a foreign businessman in exchange for over $50,000 in gambling sprees at foreign private casinos.[1]
