Although all growths found in the breast are of obvious concern, is there any special significance of a growth described by a radiologist as having a "comet shape?"

no one finding is diagnostic of anything: however, comet-shape, or comet-tail images are among the features that can indicate cancer. If it's a new finding, some sort of additional evaluation (including a needle biopsy done by mammographic guidance, called "stereotactic biopsy") would often be recommended.

Juan - I had this, and it is minor. What it involves is, they do a series of x-rays while placing long needles into the breast so that they point to the tumor. It sounds a lot worse than it is. Then you go to have a biopsy, and if indicated they take them out - this is known as a "lumpectomy" - excising a lump, in other words. I had tumors in both breasts, but they were benign. My doctor told me 95% of all breast tumors are benign.

In the words of the immortal Dwight, hope this helps!
