If a person has gone through the change but has a large fibroid tumor, what would be the source of occasionally bleeding? Since there is no period, could the bleeding be from the fibroid?

If the person was taking coumadin, could this be a factor?

I did a lot of looking and saw that fibroids actually form part of the uterine muscle, it interrupts proper shedding of the lining which causes heavier bleeding during menstruation.

There is no reasons giving for the bleeding, but the fibroids proliferate in the elevated levels of estrogen, such as before menopause and during hormone therapy. Those elevated levels could make the muscles in the uterus contract, perhaps causing bleeding with the irregular pulling.

Sherasi, thanks for your reply. I realized that this is really a tough question, and that a gynecologist is probably the only one with the real answer. I had searched too, but didn't find an answer to my satisfaction. I couldn't find as much info as you found.

coumadin can certainly be a factor, in that things which might cause no or minimal bleeding would bleed more when anticoagulated. There are various reasons a fibroid can cause bleeding, depending on its anatomic location with respect to the uterine lining. They occur in the muscular layer, but can protrude inward or outward. When inward, they may stretch and ulcerate the uterine lining. They can also sometimes get big enough to outgrow the central blood supply, causing some of the fibroid to die, and bleed. But, fibroid or not, any post menopausal bleeding needs a doctor's evaluation; online answers are flimsy at best.

Thanks Sid, the coumadin was a big concern, although I agree that the patient should see a doctor.
