I just went through a little bit of a fright, had one of my mammograms come through finding a knot. It is .7 cm, they did special views that week, along with the ultra sound and said there was also a smaller one of 2 mm. I was informed that they are cysts and that there's nothing to do about them and not to worry. Is that the usual follow up on this, and since I'm on Hormone therapy (premarin), would the HRT be causing these cysts. Has anyone else had this happen?

Here is a website that has some information about Hormone Therapy, common benefits and side effects. Cysts are listed as a side effect.

I personally do not take HT yet and have not found any lumps or cysts on my breast either. So I can't help you in this instance except to give you that website data.

Thanks for the site, will check out. I had a total hysterectomy due to severe endometriosis, and family history of uterine cancer and colon cancer. It was five years ago, when I had the hysto so I will discuss being taken off the premarin at my next annual, which is in a couple of weeks.

Good idea to talk to your doctor. I wouldn't trust an internet diagnosis on this if someone gave me one. A pharmacist is a good one to talk to about drug side effects. I would go as far as write a few questions for the doctor. You and your doctor need to decide upon the best treatment for you.

cysts are very common in the breast, and are harmless. They are common in women who use HRT, and common in women who don't. Once a lump or shadow has been proven to be a cyst, then it is in fact safe to consider it ok. However, women who get cysts are likely to get more; but no matter how many times a cyst has been diagnosed, any new finding needs to be evaluated to establish a definite diagnosis.

Here's your happy cyst machine! If I didn't have cysts I wouldn't have any boobs at all. I have 13 on one side and 14 on the other. They used to fill with fluid, become swollen and achy and had to be drained ("aspirated" in doctor language). That hasn't happened in a long time. Don't worry about them.
