I recently started a birth control pill, and didn't think to ask the doctor about the rate of pregnancy among women who use the pill. I know the companies claim the pill is 99.99% effective or something like that, but friends say they've known women who've become pregnant while on it.
Does anyone know of an online resource that has information about pregnancy rates while on birth control? I would also like to know if the rates are due to the method being used incorrectly, or the pill itself failing. Thanks!

The FDA has a table that contains pregnancy rates for a variety of birth control methods. It lists "Typical Use" rates which means that the method either was not always used correctly or was not used with every act of sexual intercourse (e.g., sometimes forgot to take a birth control pill as directed and became pregnant), or was used correctly but failed anyway.
It also lists "Lowest Expected" rates which means that the method was always used correctly with every act of sexual intercourse but failed anyway (e.g., always took a birth control pill as directed but still became pregnant).
