I'm actually posting this for my daughter. She will be getting married next year and is having trouble deciding what shade of lipstick to wear. Her fiance says red she says she'd rather something not so bright. She has a nice tan, dark auburn hair, black eyebrows, black eyelashes and blue eyes. In your opinion what would compliment her features? She will be wearing a pure white wedding gown and veil. (Feel free to add your opinion if the color isn't listed that you like.) Thanks for your help. Confused

Many department stores offer makeovers free or at a very minimal cost. By taking advantage of this, your daughter can have the advice of a trained make-up artist to help guide her in fine tuning the look she wants for her big day.

Dark hair, and a great tan screams for coral. I am not too fond of red....but then again I'm in that odd age group between 50 and death. Nothing pierced or tattooed. I lean toward Channel suits and do not appreciate the "tendy" styles. The make up counter suggestion sounds not only like a great one....but a fun afternoon with her and her maid of honor.

I have to go with red on this one. There are many shades to choose from. Red is dramatic. Given the dress and occasion, red is a must have!

I'd opt for a bronze color. It always looks great on brunettes with a tan. Not an icky brown or gold but more of a sexy, soft, pretty bronze color with shine. Its a very natural look. With dark hair and a tan you really don't need that much makeup. Mrs S had a great suggestion for going to the department store. Hudsons AKA Marshall Fields had everything you would need for a complete makeover. Also instead of a nail color a french manicure would be perfect. Congratulations. smile

Actually I think a frost would look great with a tan - topped with a little gold hi-lighting gloss. Let her sample with a deep burgandy or a deep copper and use some gold lipgloss in the center to make lips look fuller and gleam a little.
Let us know what she decides on!

I'm not going to vote because the color really depends on your daughter's skin color.

Have you ever had her "color analyzed"? The service may or may not be available in your town, maybe you don't even need it. But for about $30, you can go in and have a professional evaluation done on the colors that compliment you or just plain look bad. They will usually have about a thousand different shades of fabric solids to use and they're very good at making you look good, even in cheap clothes. The investment is well worth it, because you'll not be wasting your money on clothes that are wrong for you in the future.

Your daughter needs to get a poloroid camera and try several different shades on, you can take a picture after each shade and maybe she can see what she likes the best from the pictures. My favorite lip color is maplesugar from Estee Lauder.

I'd go with a raspberry/wine kind of color - - she'll get color that looks great with a tan, the white and will look really pretty in pictures without having her lips be the first thing you see if she wore red.....

Red typically is not a color you'd wear when you want to "glow" - not shout...

I agree with orthotech. The camera never lies and u will know ahead of time that it is the perfect shade.

Visit a Clinique or Lancome counter--they'll be more than happy to help her find the perfect shade.

Or, try Rite Aid. They will actually let you buy the makeup, try it, and bring it back and return it if it isn't the right color. That way she could wear her dress while she is trying her lipstick.

I've found that the style of the dress also determines what kind of makeup that goes with it. My dress is a retro/vintage Betsey Johnson-ish, and I bought the perfect bright red lipstick and nail polish to go with it. I would normally never wear bright red.

I wore a sheer darker pink/subtle gold gloss with matching liner. Looked great in the pictures. I saw a cosmetologist at the local salon for a trial run before the big day.
