There is a guy at the casino I work at who works in slots. He has only been there a couple of months. I don't know him very well. He invited me to his housewarming party.

What kind of housewarming gift would you get for a guy that you barely know who's single?

Maybe a basket with a bunch of stuff for cooking in it or something?

Would a gift certificate to a kitchen houseware's store be tacky?

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks Smile

I usually only consider gift certificates tacky when I know the person really well. For instance, I wouldn't give my BEST friend a gift certificate. She deserves something far more personal. Since you don't know him very well, a gift certificate would be wonderful.

Get him a party bag with a video rental certificate, some microwaveable popcorn, some snowcaps and a 6 pack of his favorite beer! Smile

You could always throw in a free pizza certificate too! He will love that kind of stuff! Smile

Heather ~ I really like the idea of a basket of cooking stuff. Unless they're really into cooking already, single guys often don't even begin to have a well stocked utensil drawer!

Why don't you find a way to have a friendly chat sometime, and sneak in some innocent questions to find out if he IS into cooking at all. If not, be sure to include a beginners cookbook in the basket!

Personally...if I didn't really know the guy for more than a couple of months, I would likely go and bring him a bottle of wine, a nice corkscrew or something of the sort.

I'd feel like I was invited for a gift and feel obligated, which would mean that I most definitely would NOT go all out on a present...

Well on second thought- get him a plant and a 6 pack of beer. He will be thrilled. Smile
