The creation of the Department of Energy was presided over by this president. ++++++++++++++++ 06-27-03, 11:44 AM Leppi Franklin Delano Roosevelt- Started in 1942 with the manhatten project 06-27-03, 04:23 PM MkStfnz You're right, Yafa!
06-28-03, 12:12 PM DorianGreyed According to the US government, the Department of Energy was created in 1977. A quick look in an almanac will show NO Secretary of Energy before 1977. A 2 minute search using Google produced numerous links. President Carter formed the Department of Energy in 1977, consolidating the work of several agencies and programs. Some of the agencies replaced were the Federal Energy Administration, the Federal Power Commission, and the Energy Research and Development Administration.

06-29-03, 01:52 AM DorianGreyed The DOE site states that the Department was formed in 1977.
07-01-03, 09:01 AM MkStfnz The first year on the timeline, however, was 1942. This is also where I found my answer, DG.
07-01-03, 09:53 AM DorianGreyed In that case, you should have read the text. It very clearly states when the Department was created. The link to the time line mentions that the Department was celebrating its 25th anniversary. The opening page shows a huge logo with the number 25 very prominently displayed. You must have avoided the links that said "25 Years of Accom[plishment" and "A Quarter Century of Public Service" and gone to the one that said, "The Institutional Origins of the Department of Energy." On that timeline page, didn't you notice the logo again, the one with the big 25th Anniversary on it, and the smaller "1977-2002"? Or maybe you could have noticed the timeline itself, which shows all the different names of the organizations that came together i 1977 to form the DOE. Or the dates under each name, specifically under the DOE name. Please don't spread wrong information. It really takes less time to get it right the first time than to defend a defenseless position. I assume by your age that you are still in high school. How would you like to take a test in which 5 or 6 of the 25 questions that the teacher asked had wrong answers, were unclear, or in some way had something wrong with them?
