What president was not elected president, or vice-president, and was he a Democrat or Republican? (Everyone will probably know this, so I'll add a couple other questions...) Who did he succeed into vice-presidency and then the presidency? What year was this? What was the famous scandal? What was he BEFORE going into either office? I hope this isn't too much... Answer away!
Gerald R. Ford was the only president to neither be elected to the vice-presidency nor presidency. His unprecedented route to the White House was a result of the Watergate scandal. Spiro Agnew, vice president serving under Nixon had already resigned in 1973. Nixon nominated Ford to replace Agnew in 1974. He was serving as minority leader in the House of Representatives. Ford, a Republican succeeded to the presidency when Nixon resigned due to threats of impeachment. See here, Here, and here.
