Ulysses S Grant comes close, if not the one.He gained a new middle name. He was Hiram Ulysses Grant on birth. He acquired the S by accident. When he was nominated for West Point the congressman nominating him put the name as Ulysses S Grant,thinking that Grant had his mother's maiden name, Simpson, as his middle name.That stuck: whatever he was to be called, the academy wouldn't alter the form as entered. (It must be said that 'U. S. G.' would not have been happy having 'H. U. G.' as his initials at a military academy )
