The city is really pretty and full of nice bars and restaurants - much more like a European town than even Montreal. The old part, which is walled, is divided into lower and upper quartiers and is right on the shores of the Saint Lawrence. We spent the days exploring and went to the fantastic musée de la civilisation québecoise.
Here are the top 5 moments of the weekend:
1. Being in a bar, listening to a man playing Cali and Joe Dassin songs on the guitar. 2. Tasting poutine - the signature dish of Quebec City - which is a plate of chips, sprinkled with curd cheese and then smothered in gravy. 3. Seeing rivers frozen solid and covered in snow as we drove through Canada. 4. Drinking what are rumoured to be the best martinis in the world in the Hotel Frontenac. 5. Going up the funiculaire that leads from the Ville Basse to the Ville Haute after dark and seeing all the lights reflected in the Saint Laurent river.

I have never heard the Saint Lawrence referred to as the St Laurent before, so there's something new I learned. Poutine the "signature dish of Quebec City," really...now that's interesting, too.
"More satisfying than tasting putaine, I imagine."
