I am trying to put myself in position to take a couple weeks in Belize in 2007 (around the Autumnal equinox during that latter part of the rainy season). I do NOT want to be in Belize City, but rather in some sort of small hotel w/ a balcony right on the rainforest (perhaps in the Toledo region of Belize). Any ideas ? Good links ? Suggestions ?

This looks nice

Budget online guide

What are your price constraints?

Does your local library have Lonely Planet Guides? These are, in my opinion, the best guide books but they are pricey... I was just looking and most of the guidebooks are over $25 a piece.

The other guidebooks that have really good information are the Eyewitness guides. These are nice because there is high correlation between the pictures/maps and the information on hotels and sites. It's very helpful.

I can help you find out more but give me a little on how much you want to spend for 2 weeks.

Hey Dog, if you're interested in going a little more south, my sister and brother-in-law run a marina in a small city in Costa Rica called Gulfito. It's on the Pacific Coast. Their marina is called BananaBay Marina and its has a website if you want to check it out. Plenty of rainforest there with monkeys and more and more gringos are headed there. It's still pretty primitive where they are if you're looking for that.

Aminator2002 - Impossible for me to say what the constraints will be. My situation is bleak, but I expect it will be better next year. I also do not know if it will be a 1-person or 2-person vacation. I like the place you liked... here is the one we had both picked out as fave so far Hidden Valley Inn

Kelleygirl - Thanks for the info. I am looking for a bit primitive, and preferrably "in the trees" where the sounds of the birds and animals can be heard easily. I will do research on that area !
