Well, I've just got back from spending some time in Beverley, Yorkshire, but didn't have time on the way down OR up to stop off and get a closer look at the Angel of the North. I agree that it might have looked better had it been silver coloured, Jenny, and that's an interesting point, but I'll reserve a proper and considered judgment for next time (so long as I can book a later plane home).

Well I live quite close and all I can see when I pass is a distraction to the motorist on one of the busiest stretches of road in the area and as for the colour it just looks rusty, silver would be good it would reflect the sunlight really well and be an even bigger distraction. Do we really need it? is it getting any messages across? or I am missing something here?
We drove past the Angel of the North last Thursday on the way up to Ashington. Going up, it was partly obscured by the trees, you could only see from the wings up but coming back down on the A1 is the best view you get. I still think it's out of proportion.
