Google Gets Inside IE With Chrome Frame

Just saw this headline on Google News and wonder, is this the Link Google needs to Activate to Merge the IE Security Features And Chrome Search in Time for Windows 7?
The Page Builder/Webmaster has to Insert 1? line of code to enable the page/site to use this "conversion" Feature

quote:
Google is wielding a fierce new weapon in its war against Internet Explorer. The company has just unveiled a new plugin that essentially transforms IE into Chrome, bringing the browser's faster performance and expanded capabilities into Microsoft's standard offering. The plugin, called Google Chrome Frame, was announced on Google's Chromium Blog Tuesday.

Meet Google Chrome Frame

After a quick installation, Google Chrome Frame begins automatically functioning within your existing Internet Explorer setup. Once running, it'll render all Web pages opened in IE with Chrome's WebKit-based engine and will also enable advanced HTML5 support not normally available within Microsoft's browser.

I''m itching to see what it does
The Google Link: http://code.google.com/chrome/chromeframe/ says
quote:
Get started with Google Chrome Frame
Note: This is an early-stage release, intended for developers and testing.

Enabling Google Chrome Frame is simple. For most web pages, all you have to do is add a single tag to your pages and detect whether your users have installed Google Chrome Frame

Google Have Made a Video of the Program for developers, which is the safest thing to use for the Majority of us Smile http://tinyurl.com/IEgfram

I have had a think about where this addon will go and it'll Be like the Flash/Java Updates or Microsofts "Flash" Silverlight
which is found in places like Bing Maps and Some Video sites
Does not Replace Flash but is coded Different to work faster If Silverlight is Not detected then Flash is used .
Starting to sound like the Security Wall Programs that prevents Nasties from getting into your computer and the AntiVirus controls too...They all mount up! Roll Eyes And let your guard down they will find a way of getting in! Frown

Some feedback from a reliable testing Source
quote:

IE8 runs 10 times faster with Google plug-in
Add Chrome Frame to instantly boost Microsoft browser's JavaScript performance

I did Note that This plug-in is also compatible for IE6 & IE7 Smile

quote:

Computerworld - Microsoft's Internet Explorer zips through JavaScript nearly ten times faster than usual when Google's new Chrome Frame plug-in is partnered with the browser, benchmark tests show.

According to tests run by Computerworld, Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) was 9.6 times faster than IE8 on its own. Computerworld ran the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark suite three times each for IE8 with Chrome Frame, and IE8 without the plug-in, then averaged the scores.

Released Tuesday, Chrome Frame lets IE utilize the Chrome browser's WebKit rendering engine, as well as its high-performance V8 JavaScript engine. Google pitched the plug-in as a way to instantly improve the performance of the notoriously slow IE, and as a way for Web developers to support standards IE cannot handle, such as HTML 5.

All that remains Now is to wait for a stable Version announcement Smile

Now the Reason Microsoft Doesn't Like it. Roll Eyes
quote:
'Given the security issues with plugins in general and Google Chrome in particular, Google Chrome Frame running as a plugin has doubled the attack area for malware and malicious scripts. This is not a risk we would recommend our friends and families take.'"

I think they are saying they dont want to issue more Patches for their Browser . Why don't they ask Google to construct The Patch or Patches?

Looking elsewhere the debate continues

quote:
Despite a variety of Microsoft-sponsored research that has recently declared IE 8 the most secure browser (exclusively in terms flagging suspect URLs a user decides to visit), most IE users are still using IE 6, followed by IE 7, both of which are know to expose users to more serious security issues that any modern competitors. That means most IE users will enhance their relative security by either installing the Chrome Frame plugin or downloading Chrome 3, Safari 4, or Firefox 4 to use instead.

Users of IE 8 will have to weigh the value of Microsoft's security mechanisms designed to protect them from (mostly) overt phishing attacks or (the rare) vulnerability exploits in the wild against the benefits of HTML 5 and Google's 10 times faster JavaScript performance.

Additionally, since HTML 5 is designed to replace Flash and Silverlight, any studies recommending a web browser solely on the basis of security will need to factor in all of the security vulnerabilities in Flash and Silverlight against using a browser that does not need them to render rich web applications. The reports Microsoft cites in favor of IE 8 do not

LOL, bedstor. i find the "debate" rather amusing

ya think Microsoft wouldn't be past putting out "security issues" to steer people towards all their products, exclusively?

how much do you want to bet that Microsoft wouldn't have to keep patching ALL their products if they put out decent ones in the first place? that is, before they unleash them on the mass public with plenty of issues still outstanding from their testers (public testers, not in-house testers).

which begs the question: why is Microsoft only NOW trying to put out completely "safe" products when others have had them out there for years.

to date, and based solely on my personal experience, Microsoft has ALWAYS been a "johnny come lately," if at all, when it comes to the comsumers.

i swear, on a stack of bibles, if there weren't still too many software programs/games that are not Mac available, i would've gotten a Mac a long time ago.

Apple's Safari browser is pretty good, but most of my experience has been with using it on my Apple iPhone. as long as i have a 3G or wifi connection, it's fast as lightning, although pretty featureless on the iPhone. i'm sure it would be a different story if i was using it on a Mac.

i do have it installed on my pc (it's quite gorgeous) but it's probably at the stage Google Chrome is and has some stability issues (freezes up, slow to load) and missing a lot of Firefox features i'd like for Chrome.

if it sounds like i have a personal issue with all things Microsoft, you would be absolutely spot on. i don't hate Bill Gates, i don't hate Microsoft...i just don't like the way they handle their products and their competition.

Have now installed it and Like the Microsoft .NET Framework program, it is a Big download (75Mbs) and does nothing until called on.
The only application so far is Google Wave which is an "Invite only "program
