A few weeks ago I upgraded , through W.U., to IE6, SP2. Today I checked W.U. again and now find IE6 SP1 should be installed.
I'm a bit confused - why was I given the option to dowload SP2 before SP1...and won't installing the previous version overwrite the later version???

To the best of my knowledge, the latest Internet Explorer version available is I.E. 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1). I wonder if the page you saw had a typographical error on it? I suppose even Microsoft is capable of a "goof".

In any event, the installer program should not overwrite newer files, without at least opening a dialog box asking for permission.

If for any reason you decide you need to uninstall Internet Explorer 6.0, this page may be helpful:

Uninstalling IE 6.0

I hope this helps!

Whoops - Guess that SP"2" can go down as a Senior Moment!
I just checked my installation history and it was IE6SP1. Talk about being totally confused! Looks like the new one is a patch.
Thanks for your help and patience Dwight.
