I run Zone Alarm Security Suite and I was able to install IE 7 without uninstalling Zone Alarm without any problems. I have had no problem with IE 7 although I know some people have.

You're correct, ZoneAlarm version 6.5 can interfere with the IE 7.0 installation. If it doesn't install correctly you can uninstall the ZoneAlarm, then install the IE 7.0 update. Once complete, reinstall your ZoneAlarm firewall. Keep in mind, there are many variations of version 6.5 ZoneAlarm. the one I have currently running is 6.5.737.000 and it is the free version. In my system, the IE 7.0 did have an install problem, resolved by uninstalling, then reinstalling. I have done many systems that did not encounter the problem thoughm, so clearly there is more involved here.

I have installed several Security related Programs and I have found that to get a Clean install the Best method is to
Download the File to your Computer
GO OFFLINE...
EXIT ALL RUNNING Security programs and BOINC/Seti If you have it running?
Install the Program
RESET the computer
Check that the EXITED Programs have restarted?
Most will restart when opened
Only Then Go Online

Programs such as IE7.0/SP2/SP3 are fussy Installers also Firewalls and Some security Programs
PS Many Program installs/updates almost Prompt a System Restore update
