Hi all and Seasons greetings!
this is a bugga, for a couple of days now everytime I boot up, my `puter runs really slow , opening apps. going online, sending emails, really everything so slow and annoying.
In Windows Task Manager under Performance tab cpu usage is always 100% and the tower is producing a low humming sound (not present usually)running processes show as 30(surely not beyond the capabilities of XP), I have sys. restored to a point 2 days before this occured, defragged, reg defragged,
virus checked, trojan checked, ran SpyBot and AdAware, swore a lot..(well more than a lot really.) I am running Win XP Home,pentium4 2.26ghz,512 sddr ram, 80gb partitioned hd.
(C= total 29gb free 8.48gb)
(E= total 45.5gb free 9.31gb)
I have had both drives with less free space and no problems.
Anyone please!

Gosh you have been busy... Smile
Reading into what you haven't typed I see you have not cleared the Temp files or Cookies This should give you some speed up for a while,Also reducing the History file saves may help? say to about 6 weeks (42days)
Also adjust the Temp file setting to 1100MBs to 1200MBs(in tiny indictor) or the 2nd notch from the Left maximum. (whichever comes first?)
Do NOT be tempted to pull it anywhere further than here because the window is rather narrow to get best performance out of the machine
ALL Smile these things can be done from Internet Explorer options first page you come to

Are you running ZoneAlarm firewall? This site offers some assistance, including upgrading to latest version.

I hope this helps!

My history file is set for 1 DAY, which helps my pc out alot. I rarely need more than that on it. Something to consider.

I agree with the "1 day" setting, but also set my temp file max at 10mb. PC Pitstop recommends 10-50mb for temp files. There is no need for using more space.
