Does anyone know what the Xcertf32.exe file is in Windows 2000?

It is located in:

C:\WINNT\system32\rpcproxy\Xcertf32.exe

It was set to run in the Registry. I have remarked it out and I don't see any difference.

I'm troubleshooting an error "Cannot find svchost.exe" generated at system bootup. I can't figure out what is calling for the svchost.exe file.

Thanks,
Dwight

Dwight don't know if this will help...a friend of mine using Win 2000 had this problem re Loading schost exe, after removing the Blaster and Sobig virus...I tried all I knew over a few days to fix it all to no avail, was driving me nuts that could not help.

In the end used the 2000 CD at boot-up and in the menu choose the REPAIR option....Three minutes later instant fix.

I am sure you know how to do this but can send the info if you require...as you always say.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bazcaz. That is exactly the problem I'm having...just removed the MSBlaster (along with about a dozen other viruses) and the svchost.exe "can't find" keeps coming up at startup. I've gone through each item in the Control Panel "Services" list and can't locate anything that that would be calling for this.

Unfortunately, the client doesn't have a Windows 2000 CD. It was lost in a move.

I guess we'll try to find a Win 2000 CD on Ebay and run that.

And koicarp, thanks for your post. I'm sorry to report that I did not find any references to this problem in the Google search results.
