crescen7 provided an excellent answer above. This is really meant to supplement that answer and may contain information beyond the scope of your question.
Roadrunner and other branded cable services are the cable companies’ version of high speed internet connectivity. The technology is sound but with a few caveats.
1. It is not for business users. And, because the local fiber cable does not exist in most residences, there is an additional installation cost, though most cable companies are providing "free" installation.
2. Cable customers are set up on a local area network, sharing a single fiber connection among many subscribers. Your line speed will diminish as more of your neighbors get the service.
3. Local Area Networks do not provide security for e-commerce. It is possible to intercept sensitive data.
This being said, I selected the cable service! Online bandwidth tests such as the one
here have confirmed time and time again that my access speed is quite a bit higher than that of my parents (who use DSL). At the time of this answer, it is over 2.4 Megabits per second. I expect that degradation will occur if I can't convince my neighbors to use DSL!
As a final thought, there are many types of DSL. Many businesses use this service just fine. However, a business that really needs secure and reliable connectivity with an array of support services will wisely choose a T1 connection. These are generally 10 to 20 times the cost of basic DSL, but there is a reason for this!
