Hi all, I am considering getting DSL about tax time, and was wondering how much I needed to know about this service. Are there any tips to using this service? Is it really a big improvement over Dialup? I have a firewall of course, so thats not an issue.I figure to pay for a year at a time to make it a little easier. Thanks for any info anyone can provide!

It "breaks"? In what way? Cable access is hard to find around here.

I have DSL at work, and it's not
as reliable as my home cable!

I tend to agree with ivnj -
cable ROCKS!

You don't have to know anything
about it - they come and set it
up for you and BAM! You'll wonder
why on earth you didn't get cable
sooner!!!!

I have had both cable, and dsl, and I have had no problem with dsl. I admit cable is a little faster, but they had to come and try and install two different times before they finally got it right. I prefer the dsl, it's very good in our area, has exceptional speed, and they are on top of all the safety issues. I installed mine by myself, and they sent a installion kit with instructions and cd to get it going. If you get stuck they should have a 1 800 # to call for tech support.

Howdy:

I have also used both and am sold on DSL.. Consistently getting speeds twice that of cable around here. The worst part about the cable connection was that I had a node right outside my house which should have guaranteed me the 1.5Mbps they were advertizing. Top speed the tech could get was lees than 800Kbps.. Average speed with DSL: 1.46Mbps on a 1.5 down and 128up line.

That plus the fact I have coupled my long distance phone service PLUS my television service (SaskTel offers a service Called MAX ( A digital tv service that comes in through your phone line)and my DSL line for a total price of $140.00 Canadian (about $100.00US).

Cable can't come close to that !!
