Since going on Broadband (And we had to wait ages for it where I live) I have noticed a lot of interference on the phone line. Does this sound like a fault from my ISP provider or BT? Any suggestions what I should do about it?

I assume that you have a phone line filter for EVERY telephone, answering machine, fax machine, internal fax/modem card. Otherwise, your broadband will also suffer.

I think that may be the answer. What is a phone line filter? I think I need to go to my local computer shop and make a few enquiries. Thank you cswchan.

A phone line filter filters out the upper end of the frequencies used by your broadband ISP so that only the audio part goes to your phone. These filters SHOULD be supplied by your ISP. In Toronto, Sympatico supplies them for FREE.

My ISP provided the modem, one lenght of cable and two splitters. I installed one of these splitters for my modem and phone but did not think i needed the other one just for the second phone. It was the second phone that I was having problems with. I have now put the second splitter on that one (I do not need it for a modem) and things seemed to have improved. Do you think the splitters have a filter in them? I am beginning to think it is down to an ID ten T fault.

cswchan, I have had a reply back from my ISP and they state that there is a filter combined with the splitter that they supply. Problem solved, Thank you.
