In 2 weeks' time on 10th October 2006, Windows XP SP1 will no longer be supported by Microsoft. This means that, unless you upgrade to SP2, you will no longer be able to get critical/security updates. TIP Do not download the program off the MS site! Have seen people in a real mess when they tried it by this method Is a Huge download too...needs DSL and a Download manager program which does not work if the download is routed via Windows Update

Actually, I've successfully downloaded and installed many SP2 updates from the MS site. And I never would even consider using a download manager for any download. But I agree, a high speed connection is necessary and the free CD would be necessary for dial-up users.
