If the Restore System suggested by mozart56 doesn't work, I suggest you try using the diagnostic utility from Microsoft: DirectX.
To use it, click: 1. Start 2. Run 3. Type in: dxdiag 4. Click OK 5. OK the WHQL prompt 6. Look for any reported "Problem Files" and take note of them. 7. Go through the various tabs (Display, mostly) and run the tests. When problems are revealed, look into the "More Help" section to see if any there helps. 8. You can download the latest DirectX utility program at the Windows Update site: Internet Explorer/Tools menu/Windows Update command Look for the DirectX End User runtime tool. The latest version is DirectX 9.0c
Identify your graphics card
If that doesn't correct the problem, try this:
1. Right click on MY COMPUTER 2. Choose Properties 3. Click the "Hardware" tab, then the "Device Manger" button 4. Scroll down to the Display Adapters section 5. Click the + sign next to it 6. Take note of the Display adapter card's name and model number 7. Look through your system disks to see if your computer came with a CD containing the graphic card drivers 8. Do a "Google" search for the graphic cards manufactures site. 9. Find, download, and install the correct graphic card driver. Follow the instructions provided by the card maker.
Don't hesitate to post again if you need further assistance. If you can provide the computer's maker and the model number, that will help with suggesting a fix.
I hope this helps!
