I have read in several sources that there are more pictures that could be used for Profile account Images on XP but they are "Locked" away in several locations:
pifmgr.dll
moricons.dll
progman.exe
What is the best method of viewing what is in there Roll Eyes and B)How do open the file safely for use.
I'm sure the files:
pifmgr.dll
progman.exe
also are on WIN95 onwards
some info here(bottom of page)

Hi Mike:
One way to view these is through the method
discribed in the URL you mentioned.
Except you can use the "Browse" button in the
"Change Icon" applet.

Both Irfanview and XN View allow you to browse through
these "hidden" pictures plus you have a "Save As"
option if you want to save as .GIF, .JPG or whatever.

Of intrest, many programs ".EXE" have embedded icons
that can be viewed & retrived by the above methods.

Best to you

Byter:

I assume the search would be sort of like looking for needles in each of the program "haystacks"? I tried it with the first .dll I came across, and it didn't work. I guess you'll have to hunt and peck for other hidden ones.

And why are they hidden, anyway? More easter eggs?

Thanks Mike Smile
I managed to locate them.
(Now have tripled my folder icons number Cool)
went down a different route(maybe easier?)
The way I did it was ...
Right clicked on a "Shortcut" icon.
Clicked on Properties on the menu.
On the next Window pressed the "Change Icon" button
BTW The XP layout is different to yours but works much the same Wink
in the text window it will say something like:
%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
That is the default icon location
To view (and use) the other sets replace the "SHELL32.dll" with

progman.exe
pifmgr.dll
moricons.dll

The icons in the box should change easily now Smile
BTW I forget... Roll Eyes
Do the Earlier Versions of Windows have "SHELL16.dll" instead of
"SHELL32.dll"? makes no difference will still work
