The clock on my computer seems to have a mind of its own. Several times a day, it will be several minutes off. I then adjust the time, and it's fine. Minutes later, it's off again. How do I get it to keep the correct time without having to change it all the time???

Hi, jelp01.
Try this, it might work.
Double click the time on your tool bar, then click the internet time tab, then check the 'automatically synchronize with an internet server'.
Also, and I don't know if this matters or not, but make sure the right time zone is selected.Smile

There is a time bug with many Dell computers. My Dell used to get up to 30 minutes out of sync within a week, even after I synced it. Read more about it here: http://support.dell.com/us/en/kb/document.asp?DN=RA1060115

I forgot to mention my computer is a COMPAQ, and I'm using Windows ME.

And no matter what I do, the clock still has a mind of its own.

Jelp01 What model of Compaq computer do you have?

If you'd like to check the Compaq Support site for information about your model of Compaq computer and clock errors, go to this page and click on the "Compaq driver downloads, software updates and patches" link. Or just report the model number here and someone will assist you with you search.

I hope this helps!

The reason your clock is going "funny" is the battery on the Motherboard (big board in the case) is on its last legs Frown
Replacement is easy (but take your time!)
The battery looks like a giant size watch battery,You can buy them in a camera shop possibly? a watch repairers? Cost about $2?
Slide the old battery out of its place do NOT bend the Contact strip, this acts as a circuit connection.(remember which way up it was when putting the new battery in Roll Eyes otherwise you'll do very expensive damage! Eek
Take the old battery with you to the shop and make sure that you get the same type.(check the number before leaving the shop ) Don't trust the word of the guy behind the counter "I think this might fit?" Confused (that could spell trouble? Eek) If the number does not tally then go elsewhere OK?
It is worth getting a friend with steady hand/eye coordination in to do this job Because the location of the battery may need some cables moving? (worth a cup of coffee?)

Hi Jelp!
Give it a week or two it will "slip" again
The reason being that the weather has started getting warmer. And warm Air does slow down the strain on "tired" batteries.
I have some in my pocket chess game that have lasted several years but I keep it stored in a warm place,. I store it elsewhere (Draughty?) might only get 6-9 months use ? Frown
Try this...put a battery which is low on power in your hand and hold it for a few minutes, and put it back It will regain some power for a short period (Not lights) radio? It is "spinning it out" for a short spell (but is "False economy" Frown)
DO NOT put it in a cooker/microwave ect this is looking for trouble! Eek Mad
An OK Method Is to put the batteries in your "back" trouser or jeans pockets and sit on them for a while Smile, sounds silly but it works! Razz Wink

Hi Di
The Nearest AP has got is Household Tips,But What being Thrifty in what We are on about covers many areas. So it doesn't fall in any specific area and AP hasn't got a "Miscellaneous Question Forum" where people can post when they cannot find a suitable Forum ConfusedHappens quite often(normally with Newbies)
But as I say the only Forum available (for now) is the "Household Tips"
KK ! Can we have something along these lines?
I'm going to Copy (the relevent parts of this thread and repost it as a Topic in the Discussion Room (Let the Gang have their say!) Smile

Ivnj, I downloaded the ClockSync program and so far no problems. The funny part about it is that the clock was fine on start-up. Then, somewhere along the way, it was exactly 15 minutes slow. Always exactly 15 minutes. Anyway, it works fine now. Thanks for all the good advice. Smile

If anybodys off just bouble click on the yellow folder and clock icon on the TaskBar. Say Properties and make sure Sync Frequency says Hourly.

If anybody's still off Just press the ClockSync tab and say Sync Clock and U'll be synced. And Change Time Zone of course if need be.
