Is it possible to take the vocals out of a song, leaving it as just an instrumental? Some kind of editing software? If so, is anybody able to do it for this person?

That's a pretty tall order, jusork! Unless the original is multi-tracked with the vocal on a separate track (in which case it's trivial) then I'd say it's impossible. You can filter out the midrange frequencies containing the vocal pitches, but (a) that will also filter out the instrumental sounds in that range, making it hollow and tinny, and (b) there will still be conspicuous traces of the vocal in the remaining frequency bands. With heavy computer processing I supposed you could narrowly bandpass filter each individual vocal pitch for the duration of just that note, then filter the next note for its duration, and so on, though I don't know if there's software that would do that. In the end I'd think you could de-emphasize the vocal but not truly remove it.
