Everytime I try to shut down my Windows XP computer, a little box pops up and says "The file msimn.exe is not responding." I then have the option to "End Now" or something else... I think maybe the other option is "Wait."

When I click "End Now," after a minute the computer does shut down, so it's not a major problem. It's just a constant annoyance to have to stand there and wait for it to pop up and click end. Does anyone know what this file is and how I can fix it so this won't happen everytime I shut down? Thanks!

A Google search for this file says its from Outlook Express, if Outlook Express is running, then the file would need to shut down completely before your computer will shut down. Has Outlook Express been open when you shut the computer down?

Outlook Express has never been open when I shut the computer down. Could you find any information on what the file does? Maybe Outlook is running through a process even without it being open...

Msimn.exe is the *executable file for the email program "Outlook Express".

The program file is failing to close properly when it is shut down and the fix for this type of problem is to uninstall, then reinstall the program.

Uninstalling the program will not result in any loss of saved messages in any of the mail folders.

Outlook Express comes as an add-on to the Internet Explorer Web browser. This page will give you step-by-step instructions on how to do this uninstall/reinstall procedure.

I hope this helps!

Dwight

*Executable means that is the file that opens the program when it is double clicked. The Outlook Express shortcut in the Start Menu activates the Msimn.exe executable program file.
