My brother-in-law is having a problem with his computer. He is running Windows XP. His computer shuts down and reboots while he is using it. I'm hoping someone can tell me why this is happening.
Thanks,
Marilyn

Has he tried running a virus scan? Checked for spyware? Those would be the first two things I would check if I had that problem. If those dont help, try going to www.pcpitstop.com , and do the full tests to see if anything needs to be corrected. He can also go here: http://www.aumha.org/a/shutdown.htm

There may be something of help at this link. Unfortunately, I dont know of anything else to suggest just now, good luck!

There is some XP info there, look under "MS Knowledge Base, Shutdown & Restart Articles", and "WinXP , It wont quit working". These may be of some help, at least I hope so.

It could also be static. We had this problem at work. The tower is on the floor. If this is the case all you have to do is take it off the floor. Or there is a trick you can do to ground the tower with an extention cord but I will let some one else tell you how to do that cause I will probably end up frying your computer.
