I want to know if there is a way I can track hits to links that go off-site on my webpage. I have the typical webstat tool installed, but it doesn't seem to cover this.

Any info would be appreciated.

I know you can get the server location of links
and what software the server is running
by backtracking off a blocked Firewall entry or by "Pinging" the location or a "Whois" search
or combining all of these with a search on this site (using the Java demo)...and need to register first http://visualroute.visualware.com
But for tracking individuals you'll only ever get as far as this stage unless they are listed on a directory somewhere Confused
Try posting this on a specialised Computer Magazine Forum (I'd like to see if there is an answer to this too Wink)

Katanya2000, I don't know what sort of website you're using, but I have "several" 500MB sites, and all let me "watch" my bandwidth. If I post any links, I can limit the numbers/downloads with my FTP client. I password protect all of them.

Sounds to me, you're talking about links you post, that are being leeched (others are posting your direct links, elsewhere), and your b/w is being eaten up.

One key would be to disable right clicks, although your best bet would be to invest in some kind of anti-leech software. Given the know-how, you could probably write a few scripts that would give you the same protection, for no cost, to you. Can't help you there, as I'm html/java/flash challenged. Only know how to Armadillo installers. LMAO

I'm sure, some of our esteemed members can point you to some good scripts. love to you.

Actually...what I am dealing with is that I have a link on my site to a site that belongs to someone else...in this case a company that sells virus protection software. I want to know how many people hit that link from my site. It'll help me know if I want to go though all the trouble of setting up an affiliate account. It can be tracked from the other side, but I don't have access to those records.
